How to start an electrolyte powder brand: where do I begin?
Begin with the country of sale and the format. Both shape the rest of the order. The country sets the label rules and who files the registration. The format sets the pack, the minimum and the production time. Put both in the brief, and the FIZZPHARMA reply states the minimum, the production time and the sample terms.
In the United States, Google Trends gives the search term "electrolyte powder" an index of 36.2 on a scale to 100 in the 52 weeks to 22 October 2026, against 18.9 in the 52 weeks before, which is 92 % higher.
The factory that makes your sample also prints the pack and checks every batch in its own laboratory.
Electrolyte tablets or powder for a new brand?
Choose the effervescent tablet when customers take one tablet at a time from a tube and you want a first run counted in tubes. Choose powder when you sell a measured dose in a sachet of 4–12 g or a zip-lock bag, and can plan a first run of 300 kg. The tablet's cost is the care with moisture. The powder's cost is the size of the first run.
The ready-made list holds a 4 g effervescent tablet, an electrolyte tablet and two powders in zip-lock bags. The 4 g tablet has 270 mg of sodium, 100 mg of potassium, 25 mg of magnesium, 15 mg of calcium and 40 mg of vitamin C. A tube holds 20 tablets, which is 80 g of product. The tube is the pack because the acid and bicarbonate that make the tablet fizz also react with moisture. Whether a particular electrolyte formula suits a sachet is confirmed in our reply.
The full comparison of tube, sachet and bag, with pack, moisture and label size rules, is in electrolyte tablets vs sachets.
Ready-made formula or your own for the first brand?
A ready-made formula lets you start without a development stage. The same formula is available to other brands as well. A formula developed to your brief is made for your brand. Its cost is time. FIZZPHARMA builds a sample, you approve it, and the label follows. Any change to the formula after approval means a new sample.
The plant's list holds more than 500 ready-made formulas in production across its formats, with new ones added every month. The electrolyte formulas are among them. For a first brand, the sample of an existing product puts the tablet or powder in your hands before you order.
If the amounts of sodium, potassium or any mineral must differ from the ready-made formula, that is a formula of your own. The order of work is the same as for a ready-made one, with one stage added at the start.
What goes on an electrolyte label in the EU?
An electrolyte tablet or powder sold as a food supplement carries the particulars of Article 6 of Directive 2002/46/EC on its label. The label also gives the amount of each nutrient per daily dose. For vitamins and minerals with a reference value, it adds the share of the reference value (% NRV). Sodium has no reference value in Part A of Annex XIII, so its line gives the amount alone. Confirm the category and the wording with your legal adviser.
The example below uses the ready-made FIZZPHARMA tablet. The values are calculated per 4 g tablet, using Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011.
| Label line | Amount in one 4 g tablet | % NRV |
|---|---|---|
| Sodium | 270 mg | no NRV set |
| Salt equivalent (calculated, may stand beside sodium) | 0.675 g | — |
| Calcium | 15 mg | 2 % |
| Magnesium | 25 mg | 7 % |
| Potassium | 100 mg | 5 % |
| Vitamin C | 40 mg | 50 % |
The rules behind the lines:
- Fixed lines. The particulars in Article 6 of Directive 2002/46/EC appear on every supplement pack. The product is named "food supplement". Beside the name stand the categories of nutrients that characterise the product. The label also gives the portion recommended for one day and a warning against going above it. It states that supplements are no substitute for a varied diet. It says to store the product out of the reach of young children.
- Salt equivalent. Annex I, point 11 of Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 gives the conversion: salt equals sodium times 2.5. The 270 mg of sodium in one tablet gives 0.675 g of salt. For a dose of several tablets, multiply both figures by the number of tablets.
- Maximums. The EU has set no common maximum amounts of vitamins and minerals for supplements yet. Some member states have set national limits. Your importer checks every amount against the rules of the market of sale (Articles 5 and 11(2) of Directive 2002/46/EC).
- Polyols. A tablet on a sorbitol base needs a check. When a tablet has more than 10 % added polyols, the label carries the sentence "excessive consumption may produce laxative effects". The rule is in Annex III, point 2.4 of Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011. Your formula's specification shows whether the sentence applies.
- Claims. A health claim on any pack needs authorisation under Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006. So the label text is a decision for step 5, not an afterthought.
FIZZPHARMA prepares the artwork with you, or checks the artwork you bring, and you approve it before printing. Your importer confirms the rules of the country of sale.
How long until the first delivery?
The fixed numbers are 24 hours for the reply and from 4 weeks for production of effervescent tablets and sachets. The sample and your two approvals come before those 4 weeks. Transport and customs come after them. FIZZPHARMA states the sample time and the production time for your format in its reply.
Four things set the calendar:
- Two signatures before production. The first is the sample, the second is the label. Nothing is produced before both.
- The formula after approval. A change to the formula once the sample is approved means a new sample, so settle the amounts in step 2.
- The delivery term. EXW is the default, FCA or DAP on request. Under DAP the goods arrive at your address and the duties are yours.
- The shelf life you need on the shelf. The standard is 24 months. The least stable ingredient sets it, and the CoA of each batch confirms it. Dispatch, transit and customs use up part of it, so plan the run backwards from the date of sale.
The order of work for every format is on how a private label order works.
What does the minimum order (MOQ) mean for electrolytes?
A minimum order is the smallest batch FIZZPHARMA produces in one run for your brand. How it is counted depends on the format. Effervescent tablets are counted in tubes of 20. Powders and sachets are counted in kilograms of finished blend, from 300 kg. The minimum is kept low on every format so a new brand can launch small. A repeat order carries the same minimum as the first.
| Format | How the minimum is counted | What it means for a first order |
|---|---|---|
| Effervescent electrolyte tablet in a tube | Tubes of 20 tablets of 4 g (80 g) | Low; the number of tubes for the electrolyte tablet is confirmed for your formula |
| Powder sachet, 4–12 g | Kilograms of finished blend | From 300 kg; the count of sachets follows the fill, roughly 75,000 at 4 g down to 25,000 at 12 g, less filling losses |
| Powder in a zip-lock bag | Kilograms of finished blend | From 300 kg; the bag size is confirmed for your formula |
Start with one formula in one format. Each format has its own way of counting the minimum. How a second flavour counts, and the number of tubes for your formula, are confirmed in our reply. The minimum for every format is on minimum order and lead time.
Which papers come with the first batch, and who files the registration?
Every batch ships with a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) and a specification after laboratory control. The site is ISO 22000, GMP and HACCP certified. Copies of the certificates with their numbers go to clients on request. Registration in another country is held by your importer, who files it with these documents.
Three more papers can be arranged:
- Halal. If the market requires it, a halal certificate is issued for each batch of your product, not for the whole factory. There are two routes: a certifying company visits the site, or an auditor is present at the production of the batch.
- Export papers. A Certificate of Free Sale and a Certificate of Manufacture, with apostille and consular legalisation where a country asks for it.
- A test by an outside laboratory. An accredited third-party laboratory tests for banned substances on request, and the report is issued in the name of your brand.
Clients can visit the factory and audit it, which is normal practice. The list of papers is on certificates and CoA.
Which constraints change the plan for a new electrolyte brand?
Four constraints change the plan: a fixed launch date, a market that asks for halal, an importer who registers the product, and a formula of your own. Match yours to the step where it bites.
- A fixed launch date. Count back from it: transport and customs, production from 4 weeks, two approvals, the sample. The cost is that no step can be skipped. Nothing is produced before both signatures.
- A market that asks for halal. Plan the certificate with the first batch, because it belongs to the batch and not to the factory. The cost is a route to choose: a certifying visit or an auditor present at production.
- An importer who registers the product. Ask for the specification, the CoA and the site certificates in step 3, before the label is final. The cost is a step on your side: the registration is held by the importer.
- A formula of your own. The formula is developed to your brief and made for your brand. The cost is a sample stage before step 4, and a new sample for any change after approval.
Frequently asked questions
How do I start an electrolyte powder brand?
Fix the country of sale and the format. Choose a ready-made formula or your own, then send FIZZPHARMA a brief with the flavour and the quantity. The reply comes within 24 hours, Monday to Friday. A sample and the label follow, and production starts after you approve both.
Electrolyte tablets or powder: which is better for a new brand?
No format wins in general. The choice depends on how you sell the serving. FIZZPHARMA makes the effervescent tablet in a tube of 20 tablets of 4 g, counted in tubes. Powders and sachets start from 300 kg. Our reply confirms whether your electrolyte formula suits the sachet.
What goes on an electrolyte label in the EU?
The particulars of Article 6 of Directive 2002/46/EC and the amount of each nutrient. Vitamins and minerals with a reference value also show the % NRV. Sodium has no reference value in Part A of Annex XIII, so its line gives the amount alone. FIZZPHARMA checks the artwork with you before printing.
How long until the first delivery?
FIZZPHARMA replies within 24 hours, Monday to Friday, and produces effervescent tablets and sachets from 4 weeks. The sample time and the powder production time are given in our reply. Transport and customs come on top. Nothing is produced before you approve the sample and the label.
What does the minimum order (MOQ) mean for electrolytes?
It is the smallest batch FIZZPHARMA produces in one run for your brand. Tablets are counted in tubes of 20 tablets of 4 g, with the number given in our reply. Sachets and powders start from 300 kg of finished blend. A repeat order carries the same minimum as the first.
Can I use a ready-made electrolyte formula under my brand?
Yes. FIZZPHARMA's list includes a 4 g effervescent tablet, an electrolyte tablet and two powders in zip-lock bags. The 4 g tablet has 270 mg of sodium, 100 mg of potassium, 25 mg of magnesium, 15 mg of calcium and 40 mg of vitamin C. The same ready-made formula is available to other brands as well.
Can I have my own electrolyte formula developed?
Yes. FIZZPHARMA makes a sample from your brief, you approve the sample and then the label, and production follows. A formula developed to your brief is made for your brand. A change to the formula after approval means a new sample.
Can I get a sample before I order?
Yes. For a product that FIZZPHARMA already makes you receive a sample of it first. For a formula that does not exist yet, a sample is developed to your brief as a project of its own. The sample terms are given in our reply to your brief.
Which documents come with the first batch?
Every FIZZPHARMA batch ships with a CoA and a specification after laboratory control. The site is ISO 22000, GMP and HACCP certified, and copies of the certificates go to clients on request. Export papers and a halal certificate for the batch are arranged where the market asks for them.
Who registers the product in the country of sale?
Your importer holds the registration in the country of sale. FIZZPHARMA supplies the specification, the CoA and the site certificates for the importer to file. Ask the importer for its list of papers before the label is final, so the artwork and the file match.
