What is in one tablet?

The tablet of 4 g has one active ingredient, vitamin D3 from an algal source. The table gives its amount and its share of the reference value. The specification that comes with the offer covers excipients and flavour.

Per tablet (4 g)Amount% NRV*
Vitamin D3 from an algal source25 µg (1000 IU)500 %

*NRV: nutrient reference value, Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, Annex XIII.

How is vitamin D3 from an algal source worded on a label?

The label states "vitamin D3". Vitamin D3 is cholecalciferol, one of the vitamin D forms listed in Annex II of Directive 2002/46/EC. The amount is given in micrograms, the unit that Annex I sets for vitamin D; the same dose in the older unit is 1000 IU.

The 500 % in the table follows from the dose: 25 µg set against the reference value in Annex XIII. The wording for the algal source is agreed with you when the artwork is prepared, and the artwork is signed off before the tube is printed.

What does the label of this formula need to carry?

The fixed lines of an EU food supplement label apply here. Two points turn on this composition: the unit of the vitamin D amount and the maximum set by the market.

  • Fixed lines. Directive 2002/46/EC, Article 6 lists them: the name "food supplement", the categories of nutrients that characterise the product, the recommended daily dose, a warning not to exceed it, a statement that supplements are not a substitute for a varied diet, and a line that they are kept out of the reach of young children.
  • Amount and reference value. Vitamin D3 is declared per daily dose and as a percentage of the reference value in Annex XIII of Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 (Directive 2002/46/EC, Article 8). A dose of one tablet reads 25 µg and 500 %, and the dose you recommend sets the printed figures.
  • Maximum amounts. Member states set their own maximums for vitamins in supplements, since the EU has not yet harmonised them (see Articles 5 and 11(2) of the Directive). Your importer checks the vitamin D amount against the market you are entering.
  • Sorbitol. The sorbitol base brings the polyol rule into the check: with added polyols above 10 % of the product, the label states that excessive consumption may produce laxative effects (Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, Annex III, point 2.4). The specification of your formula settles whether the line applies.

Can the formula, flavour or pack change?

Two routes exist. A ready-made formula is open to other brands as well, and its sample is the finished product that already exists. A formula developed to your brief is made for your brand. FIZZPHARMA builds the sample, and you approve it before the label.

The sample shows the flavour, and the full specification comes with the offer. The standard pack is the tube with a desiccant cap, and packaging of your own is accepted on request when its specification goes in with the enquiry. A change of dose or ingredient after the sample is approved means a new sample.

Which papers come with a batch, and what does my importer need?

Each batch is released with a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) and a specification, written once the laboratory has checked it. Your importer files these for registration in the destination country, together with copies of the site certificates, which are sent on request.

Export papers are arranged to suit your market. If the market asks for halal, the certificate is arranged per batch of your product. A certifying company visits and issues it, or an auditor is present while the batch is made. The whole list is under certificates and CoA. Quantities and timing by format are under minimum order and lead time. Terms for the tablet and the tube are under effervescent tablets in tubes.

Frequently asked questions

How much vitamin D3 is in one tablet?

Every FIZZPHARMA tablet of 4 g carries 25 µg (1000 IU) of vitamin D3 from an algal source. That is 500 % of the nutrient reference value in Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, Annex XIII.

Can I get a different dose of vitamin D3 from an algal source?

A different dose is developed to your brief. FIZZPHARMA builds a sample, you approve it, then the label, and production follows from 4 weeks. The plant's list also holds a ready-made tablet with 4000 IU of vitamin D3, described on its own page.

How is the algal source worded for the label?

FIZZPHARMA agrees the wording for the source with you when the artwork is prepared. The artwork is approved before the tube is printed.

How many tablets are in a tube, and what is the minimum order?

FIZZPHARMA fills a tube with twenty tablets of 4 g, closes it with a desiccant cap and prints it for your brand. Orders are counted in tubes at a low minimum. The reply, sent in 24 hours on working days, names the figure for this formula.

How long does production take?

FIZZPHARMA's production takes from 4 weeks, with freight and customs added afterwards. The run is released once you have approved the sample and the label artwork.

Will other brands sell the same formula?

Other brands can buy a ready-made formula from FIZZPHARMA's list. A formula developed for your brand is made for your brand, from your brief.

Is a sample available before I order?

Yes. As this formula is ready-made, the sample is the finished product that FIZZPHARMA already makes. Production starts after you approve the sample and the label.

How long does the tablet keep?

24 months is the FIZZPHARMA standard. The least stable ingredient sets the figure, and the CoA of each batch confirms it. Plan the run backwards from the date you want the tubes on a shelf.
